HOW TO DETECT FAKE HONEY (IT’S EVERYWHERE), USE THIS SIMPLE TRICK
While bees work all day to give us the most natural and healthy product, there is a lot of fake honey being sold in the market today.
A public study conducted by food safety news revealed that up to 76% of all honey available in the market has been taken through the process of ultra-filtration, which eliminates not only the impurities like wax traces but also the pollen in honey.
While manufacturers claim that the filtration is essential for preventing crystallization and extending the product’s shelf life, pollen is actually very important and delivers loads of benefits to our bodies.
According to researchers, the filtration process makes it difficult to determine the honey’s geographical origin. As such, they advise to avoid this type of honey, since, in the case of pollen contamination, it’s important to trace and analyze where the honey is coming from.
Chinese honey, for instance, is normally contaminated with illegal antibiotics, as well as some metal, because the honey is processed with the filtration process.
In fact, you should not buy honey sold in the following outlets, as they don’t contain pollen :
Walgreen’s and CVS Pharmacy
KFC and McDonald
Costco
Sam’s Club
Walmart
Besides the honey that lacks pollen, there are also other types of honey that have been laced with glucose and others that are loaded with low-quality meat.
HERE’S HOW TO IDENTIFY FAKE HONEY:
Pure honey will crystallize with time. Hence, any honey that doesn’t crystallize when kept in the fridge is probably fake honey.
Don’t purchase any honey that contains commercial glucose or high fructose corn syrup. Always read the labels before you buy.
Mix some drops of iodine with a glass of water, and then add some honey into it. The color of the honey will turn into blue if it has been mixed with cornstarch.
Pure honey will ignite if burnt with a match or phosphorous.
Add some drops of vinegar to a glass of water before adding some honey into the solution. The mixture will produce some foam if the honey has been laced with plaster.
Pure honey doesn’t dissolve in water, but a fake or low-quality honey does.
With these guidelines, you can avoid purchasing adulterated honey. You should always buy pure honey, with pollen, to enjoy the maximum benefits of honey.
