Coconut Oil Is Better Than Any Toothpaste According To New Study
According to the newest research at the Athlone Institute of Technology, coconut oil is the best solution for bacteria in the mouth. In an earlier work, it has been shown that digested milk made it harder for Streptococcus mutants to stick to tooth enamel.
Enzyme-modified Coconut Oil, The Toothpaste of The Future
The results showed that when the coconut oil is treated with digestive enzymes, it will effectively inhibit the growth of the majority of bad bacteria present in our mouth cavity, as well as the S. mutans. This bacteria produces acid which causes tooth decay. It affects 60-90% of children, and the majority of adults in industrialized countries.

Dr. Damien Brady, the lead researcher said: “Incorporating enzyme-modified coconut oil into dental hygiene products would be an attractive alternative to chemical additives, particularly as it works at relatively low concentrations. Also, with increasing antibiotic resistance, it is important that we turn our attention to new ways to combat microbial infection.”
Besides dealing with our oral health, the researchers are also investigating the effects of digested products like coconut oil on our overall stomach health.
“Our data suggests that products of human digestion show antimicrobial activity. This could have implications for how bacteria colonise the cells lining the digestive tract and for overall gut health,” said Dr Brady.
How To Use Coconut Oil For better Oral Health
Instead of using store-bought toothpastes which are filled with hazardous chemicals, you should use coconut oil since it contains fluoride which can kill bacteria more effectively for sure.
Oil pulling
First of all, swish a spoonful of extra virgin coconut oil around in your mouth for 15-20 minutes. Remember not to swallow the oil since it contains all the nasty mouth bugs. In the end, spit it out in the bin and rinse your teeth with water.
