Discover How Statins Can Cause Brain Damage, Rapid Aging and Diabetes

Statins are a class of drugs, prescribed by doctors to lower cholesterol levels. In this way, they reduce the risk of stroke and heart attacks. Recent studies have pointed out that statins can seriously harm people’s health.  The most prescribed drugs are Zocor, Lipitor, and Crestor.

In the U.S, there was an increased spending on pharmaceutical drugs to $374 billion in 2014, which was the highest spending since 2001. Undoubtedly, statins took a significant part of this spending. That’s why people who consume these drugs have to worry about this cost.

According to a study, conducted by the American Journal of Physiology, the statins cause adverse clinical effects which affect the biologic qualities of stem cells. These negative effects speed up the process of aging, and their continuing use can cause neurological disorders, myopathy or skeletal muscle weakness and a greater risk of diabetes.
Statins prevent the cells from proper repairment, destroy memory and cause nerve problems.
The experts also state that the health conditions caused by statins were not given enough attention through the years. In reality, people who consume these drugs report having cataracts, fatigue, liver damage, muscle pain and loss of memory. It was found that statins mess with cells in the way that their primary purpose of reproduction and body repairment is blocked.
The lead author of this study and stem cell biologist, Reza Izadpanah claims that the consumption of statins can speed up the process of aging. So, people who consume statins as a prevention should bear in mind that these drugs can cause many side-effects such as nerve problems, muscle pain, and joint problems.

Despite These health Conditions, The FDA Claims That People Should Not Be Afraid of Statin Drugs

Even though the FDA expresses on its site that forgetfulness, memory loss, confusion, increased risk of high blood sugar levels and developed type 2 diabetes was reported by some statin consumers, they also tend to emphasize their effectiveness and safety.

According to the deputy director for safety,  Amy G. Egan, from the FDA’s Division of Metabolism and Endocrinology Products, the new findings should not scare people off statins. Their benefits are undisputable so people should take them with care and stay informed about their side-effects.
This should be not disputed at all, especially after health issues such as muscle weakness, accelerated aging, memory loss and improper functioning of the cells.

The Continual Need to Assess Prescription Drugs And Re-Analysis of Older Studies

This points out the importance of revisiting the benefits of prescription drugs and staying well-informed and in the best possible shape.

One similar study focused on the antidepressant Paxil, opened up the eyes of many people. The re-analysis of the original study has found incomplete information and lot of errors. However, this particular drug was not unsafe and inefficient for the people. According to the professor of psychology, Brian Nosek, from the University of Virginia, the community is waking up and re-analyzes the work of the science.
