Pesticides are mainly used during the cultivation of crops and in some cases may remain as residues.
According to the Centre for Science and Environment (CSE), high levels of pesticide residues exposure has been linked to all kinds of diseases.
Some fruits are also coated with food grade waxes to maintain shelf life and improve appearance such as color and firmness.
Unfortunately, a quick rinse in water won’t get rid of the waxy coating or the pesticides. But it’s fairly easy to remove it by using simple ingredients found in kitchen.
All you need to do is prepare a mixture of water, vinegar, baking soda and lemon juice and then use it as a spray, rinse or soak.
Below is a simple trick to remove pesticides from your fruits and vegetables :
1. Mix 3 parts water to 1 part white vinegar (3:1 ), 1 tablespoon baking soda and 2 tablespoons lemon juice in a spray bottle.
Spray on fruits and veggies to get rid of pesticide residue. Rinse with water after spraying.
